The Transforming Tourism Value Chains Project developed this Guide to serve as a modular reference which the hotels and MICE businesses can use at any stage of developing and implementing sustainable procurement. This Guide contains the basic concepts of sustainability and green practices, the phases of how to go about implementing SP, and how to correctly identify “green” or sustainable products.
Sustainable Consumption and Production is essential in the low carbon development of tourism. Decoupling its growth from the high use of resources with the integration of SCP can be achieved through sustainable procurement. Sustainable procurement can be strategically leveraged in the tourism sector through more responsible and circular procurement, low carbon food and beverage, energy efficient appliances, and reduction of single-use plastic purchases, among others.
